This Sundae a new face and with him a new sound for the sunshine & sunset set by the river at Watt. Don’t let his youthful look fool you, DJ Bacon (Scott Barker) is a veteran of the Brisbane and nationwide DJ scene with his skills well known throughout the Hip Hop scene and any other he puts his mind to for that matter. A gentleman DJ who always has a smile on his dial and a perfect match for the vibe and style of our Sunday afternoon gig by the riverside.

DJ Bacon (Scott Barker, 35) starting collecting records in 1987 and started DJing around 1996 -self taught. He released a bunch of underground mixtapes to the Brisy hip hop scene dating back to 1997. His first 12” purchase was “it’s Tricky” by Run Dmc and he is still inspired heavily by scratch dj’s from that era such as Jam master Jay, Jazzy Jeff and Grandmaster Flash.

As an accomplished hip hop DJ and turntablist he has mastered many different styles of cutting, scratching, blending, juggling and beat mixing – incorporating these skills into DJ sets within various genres. DJ Bacon is renowned for his old school scratch style and funky approach to DJing.
He has played in Brisbane as a turntablist, club DJ and producer in the early 2000’s. Acts worked with include Gravity Warriors B Boy crew, Briztronix,Liones and more. He lived and DJ’d in Melbourne from 2004-2008. DJ Residencies in Melbourne include: Revolver, First Floor, The Laundry, Black Cat, Workshop, E55 and others.

Today DJ Bacon is back in Brisbane and spins every week with residencies at Laruche, X and Y Bar, Cloudland, Sake Restaurant, Kerbside, The Brunswick Social, Cloudland and regular guest spots around the city. DJ Bacon holds down the real shit at b boy jams and comps and can be found behind the decks at most of these jams playing original old school funk and hip hop. He has co-produced ‘Battle City” Australia’s longest running b boy comp since 2008. He has also traveled the country teaching Djing and hip hop workshops to young people since early 2000.

DJ Bacon‘s 12″ vinyl was released late 2007 and is still available at specialist record shops.It features an 8 minute old school mega-mix and selected tracks from the award winning 2007 Briztronix album “Structures Of Canyons”(produced by Shazam & DJ Bacon). He has featured on several other vinyl and CD compilations with work from Briztronix and they have released three full instrumental hip hop LP’s dating back to 2001. Their 2007 album won the Q music Q song award in the hip hop category.
DJ performances, battles, workshops and releases have been many since the late 90’s, including the Australian DMC competition 2001, QLD DMC team winner 2001, Oz B Boy championships, Wicked Force 20 year anniversary Jam, Livid Festival, Brisbane festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Stylin Up, and more. Supports of note include Grandmaster Flash, Ugly Duckling, The Roots, Hilltop Hoods and DJ Dexter
DJ Bacon is an avid collector of vintage vinyl. His DJ sets explore genres such as Funk, Soul, Disco, Hip Hop, Dub, B Boy breaks, Rock, Latin, Electro, Jazz, Downtempo instrumental and many more.
