We are in the holiday season now! Following the celebrations of the week, and the impending New Year, we don’t really need an excuse to have a party down here at Sundae.
In Brisbane town, we have paid tribute in the past to clubs that had a distinct and influential effect on the state of dance music in the city, and this week we turn our attention to Uncle, aka “The Pod”. Hidden in the attic of Family, Uncle was church for the serious heads, and an unreal display of light and sound for the naive that strayed into the hedonism. Resident DJs and Lighting Techs were affectionately known as Uncles, and just like their namesake, definitely brought the boogie to the party.
Ranging from deep soulful house, through jacking Chicago and San Fran sounds to the more driving techno of Berlin, some of the most highly regarded DJs of our time passed through that building. Uncle residents held their own, and the rotating all star team of Brisbane DJs matched it with the best in the world to present a party that attracted a cult following for almost ten years. Sadly, Uncle is no more, however the Uncle DJs continue to school Brisbane, and this week we have a special treat for you in Brian Damms, Haiku aka Adrian Matyear and Willi Costa, bringing refined bags of house delight to Sundae crossing the different shades of intelligent funky house that we hope will take you back. Join us this Sundae as we remember Uncle. You know where we’ll be – see you in the sunshine.
