Sundae 29/12/13 :: Uncle Reunion

We are in the holiday season now! Following the celebrations of the week, and the impending New Year, we don’t really need an excuse to have a party down here at Sundae.

In Brisbane town, we have paid tribute in the past to clubs that had a distinct and influential effect on the state of dance music in the city, and this week we turn our attention to Uncle, aka “The Pod”. Hidden in the attic of Family, Uncle was church for the serious heads, and an unreal display of light and sound for the naive that strayed into the hedonism. Resident DJs and Lighting Techs were affectionately known as Uncles, and just like their namesake, definitely brought the boogie to the party.

Ranging from deep soulful house, through jacking Chicago and San Fran sounds to the more driving techno of Berlin, some of the most highly regarded DJs of our time passed through that building. Uncle residents held their own, and the rotating all star team of Brisbane DJs matched it with the best in the world to present a party that attracted a cult following for almost ten years. Sadly, Uncle is no more, however the Uncle DJs continue to school Brisbane, and this week we have a special treat for you in Brian Damms, Haiku aka Adrian Matyear and Willi Costa, bringing refined bags of house delight to Sundae crossing the different shades of intelligent funky house that we hope will take you back. Join us this Sundae as we remember Uncle. You know where we’ll be – see you in the sunshine.

Sundae 22/12/13 :: Sundae Xmas Party!

We are coming into the tail end of the year again, and what a year it has been. Heaps of friendly faces throughout the year and heaps of great DJs rolling through the Sundae booth. Locals and internationals alike keep pushing the quality Sundae sound at the highest level, and all the great party people in attendance keep us smiling and loving what we do. In particular our DJ Spinna and Jimpster events were top notch, and our regular rotation at Watt each Sundae remains a firm favourite for a relaxing afternoon chilling out with some cool beats in the warm climate.

This time of year is the time for family, and we consider all of you lovely people to be a part of our family, from our friendly expats from overseas, to our knowledgeable locals representing Brisbane. It is this great community feel that makes our party such a joy to play. Of course we have big things planned for 2014, but we’d like to reflect this week on the year that was by taking a retrospective look at the great music and artists that provided our soundtrack to the year.

Cool Hand Luke and Chantal, our friendly hosts will be in the spotlight this week, knocking out tune after tune, laying down the funk, boogie, house, disco and more. Sundae DJs from throughout the year will be invited to bring a tune or two that defines the year for them too. Behind the bar and in the kitchen, Julian, Antonio and the team will be serving up the finest to keep you sated, and of course Brisbane will turn on that great weather that makes our little event so sublime. We will have mixes to giveaway, and a few surprises too. So be there with your jingle bells on as we celebrate Christmas at Sundae. We’ll see you by the riverside.

Sundae 15/12/13 :: Sundae vs Subtrakt

Sharing our passion for providing Brisbane with the finest dance music from around the world, Sundae and Subtrakt have each developed a following for their dedication to the cause, and this week sees the two crews combining for a deep house extravaganza set by the river. Although specializing in different flavours of the house sound, our guests this week will no doubt complement the Sundae sound with the flourish that they have become known around town for. Let’s get down to business and check in with Subtrakt’s Rikki Newton and Adam Swain.

First coming to Brisbane’s attention in the early years of the new millenium, the two each developed their own style, Rikki coming to notoriety at Press Club and Family, Adam breaking out of Sky Room and Barsoma. It didn’t take too long for the two to find each other and look for an outlet for their shared passion for the finest quality international deep house. Subtrakt became a vehicle for shining attention on some of their favourite artists, while also providing a playground for the two to let loose in.

Now in it’s seventh year, Subtrakt has taken a number of venues to a new level, including Bowler Bar, Capulet, and of course their spiritual home at Barsoma, amongst a number of boat parties, bowls sessions, and other outdoor activities. So we know the boys can handle the club both day and night and that’s how we do here at Sundae so the lads have scheduled in a visit with us here at Sundae to take our party from afternoon to evening.

Cool Hand Luke and Chantal will be on hand to make up this awesome foursome, and keeping the sound on flow, charting a path through deep, electronic, jazzy house. Of course our usual stars behind the bar will be taking care of your cocktail and drink needs too. Get in early to reserve your real estate as the summer days are attracting increasingly large crowds. We’ll see you by the riverside.
