Sundae 15/3/15 :: Cosmo Cater

Cosmo is one of the steadiest hands in Brisbane: Famous DJ standing next to him, thousands upon thousands of people losing their minds in front of him, and yet he is the very model of cool, calm and collected. This prowess has been displayed fairly much everywhere there are turntables- Family, Barsoma, TBC, Alfred + Constance, At Sixes and Sevens, and festivals such as Stereosonic and Future Music Festival. He’s played with a finesse that has made him the go to man for international warmup duties, particularly for the organised Auditree outfit. Cosmo’s extreme attention to detail and ability to get the job done at the business end of the night has found him on speed dial for promoters bringing out the likes of Chic + Todd Terry, Seth Troxler, Eats Everything, Hernan Cattaneo and more.

Cosmo is one of the steadiest hands in Brisbane: Famous DJ standing next to him, thousands upon thousands of people losing their minds in front of him, and yet he is the very model of cool, calm and collected. This prowess has been displayed fairly much everywhere there are turntables- Family, Barsoma, Empire, Birdees, and almost every festival someone has tried to sell you a ticket to- he’s played with a finesse that has made him the go to man for international warmup duties. Cosmo’s extreme attention to detail and ability to get the job done at the business end of the night has found him on speed dial for promoters bringing out the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, James Lavelle and more. His presence in the booth enough to make even the headliner more than a little nervous.

Down here at Sundae, Cosmo has become a party favourite, showing both the depth of his record collection and his ability to handle any gathering of party people, night or day. You can expect an ear catching deep, soulful disco and house set that will put you in a great mood for the rest of the week. Sundae 1/12/13 :: Chic Wants You!

Wow. Everywhere tunes. Much amaze. So House. This week we are going all out in celebration of the upcoming “Mobile Disco” super-event featuring Nile Rodgers, Chic and Todd Terry. Brisbane’s finest will be in support and of course Sundae crew have got their sticky little fingers in this tasty pie too! However, we can’t wait ’til the 15th to get this proper party started so we are going to have a little warm up session of our own.

Sundae specialists Cool Hand Luke and Chantal will be joined at Watt by the Brisbane segment of the support crew featuring Mr Sparkle, Kieron C, and Cosmo Cater. We will be throwing down only the finest classic house and disco tunes in a Sundae soundcheck to prepare us all for the big event coming up in a few weeks time, and will be featuring cuts from the impressive back catalogues of Todd Terry, Chic and Nile Rodgers.. There will be heaps of give aways including signed CDs and a chance to meet the band too, as well as a funky little disco dance class to get you stepping in the right direction.

There will be talk of this event to come for sure, and we are doing our little bit to get our party people prepped and ready for this great event. There will be ticket sellers on hand too if you need to hook your friends up. This is a great chance to see some of Brisbane’s finest DJs in the spotlight before the big night comes around so don’t miss out on the fun. We’ll see you by the riverside.

Sundae 29/1/12 :: Cosmo Cater

Respected by punters and chin-strokers alike for his delivery of upfront sounds across the genre spectrum, you can set your clock by Cosmo’s party-rocking reliability. He comes from a pedigree of DJs that entertain without any other agenda than keeping the dancefloor going.

Cosmo’s superb set-crafting abilities have established him as the warm-up DJ of choice for progressive house superstars whenever they roll through Brisbane – Sasha, John Digweed and Hernan Cattaneo just three of the names to receive Cosmo’s patented treatment.

His warm-up slot for Sasha and Digweed in 2006 had some local fans claiming he should join the legends in the DJ booth for their encore, whilst his set in support of Diggers in 2005 was so warmly received no one was really sure if the rapturous applause was for Diggers stepping up to the decks or Cosmo’s own performance. And when he dropped Bedrock’s ‘Heaven Scent’ during a roof-raising set in support of Sasha in 2004, the man himself actually hit the dancefloor –one of the rare occasions another DJ has got him reaching for the lasers!

TimeOff Magazine 2009 Writers Poll rated his warm-up for Sasha as “local gig of the year” and Hernan Cattaneo rated his Brisbane gig as best show of 2009, in DJ Mag.

Crafting slow-building warm-ups isn’t the only weapon in the Cosmo Cater arsenal, with his much-vaunted diversity seeing him hold down a seven year long residency at Brisbane bar and club Jade Buddha, playing a more chilled and funky sound. He’s rocked Sydney and Melbourne and clubs all over Brisbane on most weekends. He has also become a fixture of the festival circuit, with slots at the 2005 Big Day Out Boiler Room, Summafieldayze, Future Music Festival, Stereosonic and more. Held in high regard by his peers for having a broad yet cheeky musical taste and the technical skills to back it up, Cosmo is regarded as one of Queensland’s finest.

Cosmo stays ahead of the local pack by looking beyond the current releases when playing his DJ sets – spinning old tunes in a new context is one of the many tricks up his sleeve. This passion for uncovering hidden gems and discovering new ones helps him rock diverse crowds, be it laying down smooth disco and house at bars or slamming down big tunes at festivals. 2011 saw Cosmo support a who’s who of quality international DJs as well as adding disco and drum ‘n’ bass to his genre versatility.

When the game is on the line, you go to your pinch hitter. The guy that unassumedly chalks up the runs, and the bigger the occasion, the better he plays. Commonly known as the “go-to” guy, he might get less attention and hype than the flashier members of the team. However, he delivers – consistently, and with a workman-like quality. Cosmo Cater is one DJ you want in your corner.
