Sundae 21/12/14 :: Hakan Henry

Summer is in full effect here at Sundae, and we’ve got more tasty treats on the way to sate your thirsty selves, this week in the form of our supreme Turkish connection, Hakan Henry. After a rocky start, the storms have cleaned out and cleared the way for another sublime season in Brisbane, and now that the sun is starting to shine on, the Sundae gang are keen to get back to swinging in the sunshine.

Hakan Henry arrived in Brisbane only a few short years ago, and quickly found himself folded into the Sundae family. Our musical interests align in so many ways, and every visit to Sundae for Hakan has been a proper get down, both at our weekly events here at Reef, and previously at Watt, to sharing the set up duties for international artists such as Terrance Parker and Jimpster at our more heaving parties. Clearly the Sundae faithful have adopted Hakan as their own, and he brings a unique perspective to our international family.

Fresh faced in the Istanbul scene in 1994, Hakan has played an important part in the development of the house underground there, Thousands of dancers grooved to Hakan at nightspots of renown including Crystal, 11:11, and Maslak 2019, and visiting delegates Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Fred Everything, Jt Donaldson and more imported fresh overseas sounds, all enabled by Hakan’s hungry beat smuggling antics. Hakan has definitely put the work in there in Turkey and his since had his passport stamped in clubs in New York, Chicago, London, Ibiza, Lucerne and Sofia too.

Totally down with the house sound, of course Hakan has a few flavours and flourishes to distinguish himself too, and will be bringing a selection of influences to play with your eardrums. Chantal, Cool Hand Luke and Benn Hopkins are in the building too, knocking out tune after tune of the finest funk, boogie, soul, disco and house to while away the day with, and of course our resident mixologists and chefs here at Reef will be knocking them out too: platter after platter of the finest seafood and cocktails in Brisbane to support your lazy expedition through the afternoon.

Get on board as we welcome back to the tables Hakan Henry and the crew dishing it up this Sundae. Christmas is around the corner too, so bring your friends and family, or you are welcome to join ours. We’ll see you in the sunshine.

Sundae 15/6/14 :: Hakan Henry

We’ve been fortunate here at Sundae to have made so many great international friends, and this week we are checking in with our Turkish correspondent Hakan Henry to see what’s bumping in his studio. Hakan is a recent addition to the Sundae Brisbane family, however his report card is impressive, and he’s been dishing up great stuff at every appearance here at the party so let’s take a look inside Hakan’s record bag.

Telling a story all the way back to 1994 of huge developments taking place in the the Turkish dance music scene. Hakan has seen it first hand from his initial upbringing in his youth playing parties in his local community centre to managing the gyrations of thousands at clubs like Crystal, 11:11 and Maslak 2019. His list of known associates too shows some names we’ve come into contact with before. Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, Fred Everything, Jt Donaldson, Raoul from Swirl People and Roy Ayers all took on parties set up by Hakan. Not content to manage proceedings in Istanbul, Hakan has had his passport stamped in clubs in New York, Chicago, London, Ibiza, Lucerne and Sofia.

In Brisbane, Hakan has been very selective about the parties he plays, sticking to the underground house events with quality guests, including helping bring Jimpster and Terrance Parker to the floor at our Sundae International parties. Totally down with the house sound, of course Hakan has a few flavours and flourishes to distinguish himself, though those that who know, know that he is fairly adept at making the human body twist and turn, or in our case here in the park, to chill and be chilled.

Of course our ever-effervescent hosts Chantal and Cool Hand Luke will be about to guide the afternoon all the way to it’s destination- getting you in the right place to unwind with your friends! Winter is just around the corner so come past and let’s turn the heat up as we welcome back Hakan Henry. We’ll see you by the riverside.

Sundae International 14/4/13 :: Jimpster [UK/Freerange] @ Brunswick Social

Sundae International is proud to announce Jimpster (UK) live at the Brunswick Social.

Tickets available via Brunswick Social, Apartment and Sundae resident DJ’s or online through Oztix http://goo.gl/zpbLi

Following our hugely successful first event with DJ Spinna, Sundae International returns with a next level operation that will leave you breathless and sweating. Those in the know have suspected that something big was about to drop, and for those just finding their feet in the underground, our mission is to capture for the evening one of house music’s finest, Jimpster.

For over two decades, Jimpster, also known as Jamie Odell, or Audiomontage amongst other aliases, has been pushing a sound that continues to make a hot mess of dancefloors around the world on a weekly basis. Although based in London, he has been sighted in Berlin, New York, Tokyo, Sao Paulo, Madrid and Ibiza. Sought out like Carmen Sandiego the man is constantly on the run, distributing an illicit sound in the form of one the industry’s most sought after distribution operations, Freerange Records, as well as personal appearances at some of the finest clubs around the globe. From his various hideouts around the world, he has scattered clubbers like birdseed, keeping true to his ‘Freerange’ ideal.

Dancers are advised to approach with caution, lest they lose their minds to his solid deep house sound. Known associates include Josh Wink, Joris Voorn, Osunlade, Solomun, Dixon and Manuel Tur, amongst others. Each of his releases and remixes are highly potent, in high demand from the underground and retain black market trading value. Attendees are warned they may break out into sweat upon stepping onto his dancefloor, other complications include hysteria, a trance like state, lowered inhibition and involuntary movement in the hips and feet.

The Brisbane team put together to lock down Jimpster for the evening include Brisbane’s finest in Cool Hand Luke, Benn Hopkins, Hakan Henry and Chantal, alongside house investigator specialist ‘Hami’ aka Michael Ham who will be responsibly managing intoxicants, as well as maintaining ration allowances through the evening. The raid will take place underground at Brunswick Social.

Join the team to lock down Jimpster for one night. Clubbers are invited to mobilise friends and family to assist in the operation. Mission commences at 1500 hours Sundae 14th April. We’ll see you underground.
