Sundae 14/12/14 :: Jason Rouse

Here at Sundae we’ve seen a few changes in Brisbane over the years but one thing has remained constant, steady and unwavering. Jason Rouse behind the decks dishing out tune after tune of an evening. Overseeing the rise of clubbing in this fair city from his office in the center of the room, Jason has managed proceedings in the city’s nightspots for near two decades now.

A quick flip through the resume reveals a list of basically every worthwhile soundsystem in town. From early jaunts at The Tube, Viva, Port Office and so on, to more modern jumpoffs including Family, Monastery, The Met, Zuri, Bacchus and more. Rouse has several thousand hours behind the wheels so it was natural for us to turn to him to lead proceedings this week.. Having been at the forefront of dancefloor development for so long, it’s safe to say Rouse is House. Our afternoon with Rouse though will take a more wholesome approach, including funking grooves from across the spectrum that contributed to that beautiful boogie.

Looking forward, Jason’s calendar is booked solid, both with residencies and high profile guest spots all around town. Clearly the guy is doing more than a few things right, and central to the technique is his trademark sound, a refined but forward thinking, funky, bumpy boogie know about the place as Rouse House. From the deep relaxed grooves, to big room movers, Jason can work with any situation. An experienced, professional hand behind the decks, and an all around top guy on the dancefloor side too, Jason is a great addition to the party and we are glad to have him with us this week. Jason is all about his record collection and with sounds for every mood, the afternoon’s proceedings are under firm control with Jason at the mixer.

Jason’s frequent partner in crime, Benn Hopkins, will be about the venue too preparing the business of the day alongside Chantal and Cool Hand Luke laying out the early funky goodness, and helping you navigate the end of your weekend with style and grace. Sundae has a big party season coming up this year, with Terry Farley arriving soon, the Kombi van out and about at festivals, and more on the home turf for the Sundae crew, summer is turning out to be a tip top heatwave of tune after tune and we love you so come and hang out with us. See you in the sunshine.

Sundae 18/5/14 :: House Classics ft Jason Rouse

Here at Sundae we’ve seen a few changes in Brisbane over the years but one thing has remained constant, steady and unwavering. Jason Rouse behind the decks dishing out tune after tune of an evening. Overseeing the rise of clubbing in this fair city from his office in the center of the room, Jason has managed proceedings in the city’s nightspots for near two decades now.

From early jaunts at The Tube, Viva, Port Office and so on, to more modern jumpoffs including Family, Monastery, The Met, Zuri, Bacchus and more. Rouse has several thousand hours behind the wheels so it was natural for us to turn to him to lead proceedings this week as we take a retrospective look at some of the classic tunes that have stood the test of time. Having been at the forefront of dancefloor development for so long, it’s safe to say Rouse is House.

An experienced, professional hand behind the decks, and an all around top guy on the dancefloor side too, Jason is a great addition to the party and we are glad to have him with us this week. Additionally, this week marks the anniversary of Jason’s yearly trip around the sun, so if you feel inclined, please come and wish him Happy Birthday in between tracks.

This Sundae will be a warm up of sorts too, as Jason and the Sundae team prepare for a huge party coming up with Defected arriving on our shores alongside some not so well known dude calling himself Kenny Dope. We’re just kidding, this party will be huge, and with Cool Hand Luke, Chantal, Jason and many of the Sundae family supporting, it will be a great day for house music in Brisbane. Come and talk to us this week if you want more details about this great event coming up, and to catch some of those house classics that have made us groove over the years. With master selector Jason Rouse in the .. er building, and of course Luke and Chantal on warmup things will get heated very quickly. We’ll see you by the riverside.

Sundae 26/1/14 :: Australia Dae Vinyl Throwdown

Well we’re right in the middle of summer now, and the Sundae faithful have been enjoying the warm weather and hot hot tunes. This week we are taking a huge risk by throwing our first Vinyl Throwdown party for the year. Luckily for us though, we have some cool cats on hand to bring the chilled out vibes. Let’s meet our guests Jason Rouse and Gracie.

With over 30 years of DJing experience between the two, Gracie and Rousey have helped guide our little city’s clubs into the new millenium. Before all the superclub business in the early 2000s, clubbing in Brisbane was a sordid affair. DJing actually meant leaving the house to buy tunes, in the daylight, no less. Nights were spent trucking records from spot to spot and back home again. A handful of dedicated DJs plied their trade in the clubs and slowly shaped Brisbane’s nightlife with their experienced guidance of the city’s growing dancefloors. Venues such as The Tube, Viva, Monastery, Family, The Met and GPO have all called on Gracie or Rousey at certain times, and in most instances the two together would bolster a club’s roster with the sheer depth of their experience.

Taking their cues from their own cratedigging research, Gracie and Rousey were both regularly seen preparing their performances in the record stores during the week. Attention to detail was paramount in seeking out the perfect groove, and hours were spent flipping through the thousands of great releases that were slowly starting to stream into the city. It is this dedication to building up their record collections that we hope to bring out of these two classic selectors this weekend when they arrive at the party. Among their thousands upon thousands of records sit some historic classics and forgotten gems, covering all the things we like down here at Sundae.

This will be a special day for some of our veteran clubbers as they may relive some times past in venues long since defunct. That should not discourage our younger folk however, as this pair are both great fun and will be good for a get down. Of course, Gracie and Rousey share musical interests, and us as well, so flavours of funk, disco, soul, deep house and more will be covered in this history lesson. Cool Hand Luke and Chantal will of course be on hand to introduce our guests. A special day for sure, so bring your good selves, your close people and we will together keep it cool by the river. We’ll see you by the riverside.

Sundae 19/5/13 :: Jason Rouse

Our guest this week at Sundae will be immediately recognizable to many, he has been helping us out for years, bringing the good times and good tunes. So experienced and influential in Brisbane is Jason Rouse, he has spawned his own brand of chuggy soulful deep bump and grind known locally as ‘Rouse House.’ For those that don’t know, let us help you get acquainted.

Jason is an experienced hand in Brisbane clubs, so much so that he’s watched a whole new generation of DJs develop in the nightlife scene that he helped establish. His continuing enthusiasm for playing the right tune, at the right time, for the best parties, sees him continue to throw down each week at Zuri and The Met, to appreciative crowds that can’t get enough of his impeccable tune selection and soulful swagger.

Out here in the daylight, Rousey shines at our little party. His endurance and keen ear ensure that both he and the party make it to the end of the weekend in good spirits. And this weekend will be a real test, as friends and family join him to kick off the opening ceremony of his week long birthday celebration. That said, Rousey knows our spot inside out, so when you see him roll up with his record bag, grab yourself a drink, stretch your toes, and get ready to get down, as Sundae’s very own ‘boogie-man’ is in town. See you in the sunshine.
