Sundae 18/8/13 :: Brazen + Mr Gaunt

Spring has sprung early this year, but we don’t mind one bit. These warm days have been bringing friends and family out to enjoy the great Brisbane climate and these last few weeks at Sundae have been packed. Word from Interpol is that our intrepid heroes, Cool Hand Luke and Chantal are on the run, and have left Europe before resurfacing in Cambodia for an appearance at former Brisbanite Lady Bluesabelle’s funky night there.

Back at home, and we have all you fine people covered in the funk department with our guests this week backing the funk truck up to deliver a consignment of beats and breaks that tick all the boxes. Our illicit cargo in this instance belonging to interstellar beat smugglers Brazen and Mr Gaunt.

Long time supporters of the Sundae party, Brazen + Mr Gaunt’s regular appearances at our party have become a natural progression of their sound. As theyโ€™ve matured as artists, theyโ€™ve allowed their funk, garage, soul and early breakbeat influences to shine through, though delivered with the same intensity that they have come to be known for at spots like Moonbar and Family.

Highly regarded for their forward thinking club breaks and peak time cuts, the boys dominated the Empire for a time with slick delivery and high intensity performance. Outside the usual club circuit though, and the two have developed in fine style a musicality that is appreciated by dancers from all walks. Each appearance at Sundae has produced an inviting mix of classic recordings, experimental rhythms and feel good fun.
Cool Hand Luke and Chantal are due to arrive back home in the near future, though we can be assured that the party is in good hands this week with Brazen and Mr Gaunt, so come and soak up the sounds in the sunshine. We’ll see you by the riverside.

Sundae 7/8/11 :: Brazen + Mr Gaunt

This month at Sundae, we are preparing a special series of parties that showcase DJs who compliment and challenge each other. These artists share a friendship, and musical influence, and will allow us a small glimpse into their shared musical experience. First off the block this week are our close friends, and longtime supporters of Sundae, Brazen + Mr Gaunt.

The Sundae parties have traditionally been a place for the rotation of Brisbane’s club DJs to ease off a little, and play some tunes that wouldn’t normally fit into their regular club sets. Though for Brazen + Mr Gaunt, their regular appearances at our party have become a natural progression of their sound. As they’ve matured as artists, they’ve allowed their funk, garage, soul and early breakbeat influences to shine through, though delivered with the same intensity that they have come to be known for at spots like Moonbar and Family.

Join us this weekend for the first of our presentations of slick Brisbane DJ partnerships, as we follow Brazen + Mr Gaunt through the afternoon into a world of bumps, bounce, basslines and broken beats that will set the scene for another glorious afternoon in the park. We’ll see you by the riverside.

Sundae 6/3/11 :: Vinyl Throwdown

As summer officially gives way to autumn, we could be forgiven for being a little confused – it’s only recently begun to heat up. One thing you can rely on though is the quality heat thrown down by our Sundae DJs.

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve seen some of Brisbane’s finest break out the big black discs at their Sundae session. Of course if you want to see records played in Brisbane, Sundae is the place. Every now and then we confirm our musical pedigree with our Vinyl Throwdown, which this season caps off a whole month of great DJ sets dominated by records.

In the past, our Throwdown sessions have focused on House music history, though we are aware of some discontent amongst the breakbeat contingent of our crew, so this week we break out the boogie! Brazen, Mr Gaunt, Katch and more are on board. Plus the classic Sundae cast of the most colourful characters you will chill with in this fair city. See you in the sunshine!

Sundae 9/1/11 :: Brazen + Mr Gaunt

Back by popular demand DJ Brazen (Brad) and Mr.Gaunt (Marcus) are veterans of the Sundae gig being involved in some of the biggest days we have had at Watt. Their breaks, funk and hip hop driven style always go down well with the masses, delivered with a cheeky smile and extreme enthusiasm.

Between them, they have more experience than theyโ€™d care to admit, most famously their years of residency back to back in Empire’s moon bar. These guys know their way around a set of turntables and it definitely comes across in their sets.

Brazen and Gaunt have shown themselves to be popular Sundae guests, taking the afternoon sound and making it their own. Every time the come down, we pack out, so get in early, reserve your real estate, and get amongst it. See you in the sunshine!
